East Coast Roadtrip: Peace Up, A Town

I’m almost to the end of my trip and I can’t believe Atlanta was the first stop of my trip! It’s been quite the journey, but the most absolute best time.

Atlanta — my first stop of the trip! A little hiccup to the beginning on my first real flight in 2021 (I don’t really count the 2 45 minute flights I had in March for a friend’s wedding) and of course, a huge thunderstorm came rolling into Austin. I splurged on an upgrade for Delta’s Comfort+ and must say I never want to travel any other way. Anyway, with Delta Comfort+, you board in the beginning and unfortunately for me, it started pouring right after I got on. With my mask on, we waited and then waited for the storms to pass. I think I would’ve rather be in the airport to get another cocktail or something, but oh well, the flight attendants were super nice and passed out water bottles. **Fun fact, they cannot serve alcohol on the ground to you, so a couple passengers decided to deplane to grab some beers at the airport.**

Delta Comfort+ featuring much needed wine after the rain delay

Day 1: Finally after a 1.5 hour delay, we were finally up in the air and I had a nice glass of wine. We landed shortly after midnight and it was time to find an uber to my friend’s in Northwest Atlanta. When they said Uber/Lyfts have been hard to find, they were not lying and that has definitely been the theme of the trip (also, 10x more expensive).

Day 2: I got to catch up with one of my college friends and meet her baby girl, Dillan Christine. Literally, the most chill baby anyone could ever have. I got to the house shortly after midnight and the dogs were barking like crazy. There was not a peep out of her! Last time I was here to visit, only sweet Sawyer was here. Now, Clark and Dillan are in the family. Unpictured is the fabulous southern brunch we got delivered from Brunch Bitch. I opted for the Atlanta Omelette! Always a fun time catching up with Melissa and husband Luke!

After brunch with friends, it was time for my older brother to come pick me up. The original reason for this trip was my neice’s high school graduation! It was the first time we had been back to the Atlanta area with the whole family since my dad passed away in 2010. After a year of little to no travel, it was nice to have the family all together. My brother and his family usually head to Texas for holidays (so a nice change of pace). We opted for a nice hibachi dinner for that Saturday night to celebrate the youngest in the family to graduate. A nice little photo op outside of the restaurant.

Day 3: It’s graduation day for my neice, Christy! However, as a family, we wanted to go see the sunrise at Stone Mountain Park. Let’s just say some of us did not wake up on time (looking at my brother on that one). We did eventually make it to climb this “mountain” and it was not as easy as my brother made it seem. The young ones were up in front. I was somewhere in the middle by myself and then, my brothers and older sister were with my mom. Mom did not make it very far before we left her at one of the rocks. Don’t worry we eventually found her and took her up the gondola! We had lovely views of Atlanta and there were a ton of people walking and running up the mountain.

View from top of the mountain! I think it’s only .5 mile up but relatively steep. Thank goodness for my new trail shoes from REI.

After spending some time around the park, it was time to get back to the house to get ready for graduation. It probably has been awhile for most of us since our last graduation was when my littlest brother graduated in 2018. My other neice, Cydney, had her graduation cancelled due to COVID last year. Graduations are LONG, especially for those bigger schools. However, we are so lucky to be able to be in person this year, so we are thankful!!

A nice movie and some rose’ to end the night with my family before we all head out! On to the next!

Much love —- Lisa
